What is a Bailiwick?

The Bailiwick of Guernsey

This is a quick hitting post - be sure to read Buying a Grave Stone which I also put up today. It's a little meatier.

A Bailiwick is a jurisdiction run by a bailiff.  If the executive of your jurisdiction holds the title of bailiff, then you are living in a bailiwick.

There are nine bailiwicks in the world today, but only two of them are proper regions of jurisdiction. They are The Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey, both Crown Dependencies in the English Channel.
